“David was afraid of God that day and asked, “How can I ever bring the ark of God to me?” He did not take the ark to be with him in the City of David. Instead, he took it aside to the house of Obed-Edom the Gittite. The ark of God remained with the family of Obed-Edom in his house for three months, and the Lord blessed his household and everything he had.” 1 Chronicles 13:12-14
Recently, as I was reading about King David’s desire to bring the Ark of The Covenant to Jerusalem, a number of thoughts grabbed my attention which are both challenging and informing me in my walk with Jesus and the ministry He’s called me to.
First, David recognized his need for the presence and blessing of God as the newly anointed King of all Israel. Amen, me too!
Second, he said, “For we did not inquire of it during the reign of Saul.” Saul had been called and anointed to be King by the Prophet Samuel but, because he did not “inquire of the Ark” – did not seek the presence and guidance of God—he repeatedly acted in a carnal, fleshly way invoking the anger of God and Samuel. He lost his anointing, his Kingdom, was eventually tormented by an evil spirit “from the Lord.” Ultimately he pursued and tried to murder David without cause. Finally he lost his life along with three of his sons. David had personally witnessed and experienced what happens when someone rules without the Presence and Blessing of God. Could this be the condition of much of the Church today? I believe that’s changing. PTL!
Yet, even David didn’t get it right the first time. He didn’t consult the Torah and Priests as to how the Ark was to be transported to it’s new location. The Philistines had sent it back to Israel on a new cart after they had experienced severe plagues in their cities and the humiliation of their god Dagon. The Philistines didn’t know how to transport the Ark, but David certainly should have. When the oxen stumbled and the Ark was in danger of being wrecked, David’s friend Uzza reached out and grabbed the ark to steady it. He was killed instantly. This both angered and frightened David and he had second thoughts about bringing the Ark to Jerusalem. “It is a dreadful thing to fall into the hands of the living God.” Hebrews 10:1 Thankful for mercy & grace!!
The Ark was taken to the house of Obed-Edom, where it remained for three months and as our text at the beginning states, “The Lord blessed his household and everything he had.” This news must have reached David so we see him a couple chapters later again attempting to bring the Ark of the Covenant to Jerusalem. This time he had done his homework—the Priests carried the Ark on their shoulders resulting in great success, blessing and celebration in Israel. Moses’ Tabernacle was in Gibeon so David set up a tent in Jerusalem where the Ark was placed. David designed musical instruments, established the Sons of Asaph to worship before the Ark & the Lord 24/7/365. David also wrote Songs of Worship, Praise and Adoration to assist his people in encountering and experiencing, not just the physical presence of the Ark, but the Living Presence of God who dwells between the Cherubim. It came to be known as the “Tabernacle of David.” This is also referenced in the Prophets & New Testament.
When the Jerusalem Council was debating whether to allow all the new Gentile converts into their fellowship, James relates the following: “After this I will return and rebuild David’s fallen tent (Tabernacle of David). Its ruins I will rebuild, and I will restore it, that the remnant of men may seek the Lord, and all the Gentiles who bear my name, says the Lord, who does these things’ that have been known for ages.” Acts 15:16-18 Nothing pleases the heart of God like united, unadulterated Praise & Worship!
This, in essence is what we are endeavoring to do—in Simi Valley, Ventura County, California, the United States & Globally!
The past few weeks have been wonderfully busy as God continues to orchestrate, unify and mobilize His people in these last days. I’m running to keep up with him and am WAY LATE in getting this written. I appreciate you bearing with me. More people, churches, city & regional groups are responding to the Call to Prayer; there is increasing unity, collaboration, vision and passion arising in Jesus’ Church and it’s very exciting to be part of this work.
Simi Valley City Church Prayer Awakening has been gathering for 5 months—the First Sunday of each month; the numbers continue to grow and we’re meeting in as many different churches/ministries possible. Our prayer focus has changed each month to reflect the challenges and opportunities were facing. Faith and enthusiasm are growing in the Body of Christ in Simi Valley. PTL!
Life Impact—Impacto de Vida: We had around 4,000 attend this event at Royal High School last month to worship & pray together and hear Nick Vujicic. Over 300 responded to the invitation with close to 200 making commitments to Christ. This is a FIRST for Simi Valley! More Lord….
Love Israel: In March we assisted Liliana McDermott, Jacob’s Ladder in Ventura, establish Love Israel: Prayer for Israel & the Diaspora. Lilly sent me a text last week saying that “suddenly” Jews are more open to the Gospel and many have received Yeshua as Messiah! Love Israel meets the First Monday of each month @ Jacob’s Ladder on Thompson Blvd, Ventura.
Eagle’s Nest Ojai: This group, led by Paul & Angie Royle, continues to grow, more people & groups are praying in their Cities – for Gov’t centers, schools, businesses and homes – blessing their communities with the Love, Mercy & Grace of Jesus. Michael Dalton ministered to us very powerfully this past weekend. We also had anointed times of prayer for Eleanor (Chumash) and Rochelle (Chemehuevi from near Lake Havasu). God is healing, anointing and realigning His Body for maximum effectiveness.
Santa Paula: We’ve now completed 7 of 9 months of prayer walking SP and will have prayed for every church, business, school, Gov’t center and home in just 2 more months. We often meet people that we are able to share Jesus or pray with. Our next gathering is this coming Tuesday, September 18 @ 6:30 PM (month 8). Many leaders and intercessors from around the county have joined in supporting these walks. Now the SP Churches are beginning to ask: What’s next Lord?
LA Harvest with Greg Laurie: Several VC Churches participated with this event at Dodger Stadium last week—inviting friends, serving as ushers/counselors and now doing follow-up. Over 60,000 attended the 2 nights and approximately 7,000 made commitments to Jesus! I wasn’t able to attend but did live stream it and was totally inspired and blessed by the music, messages and watching people respond to Jesus’ invitation. Can we believe for REVIVAL in California? I AM!
